Weekend High Tea @Suffolk House
The high tea at Suffolk House is certainly affordable at RM58 pax (Tea for Two is RM100) but I think the value proposition is lower than the set lunch (RM98 for 3 courses including coffee) I had last week.
The dainty sconces at Suffolk House were a tad smaller than those served at traditional English teas. And the finger sandwiches and cakes looked decidedly tiny compared to those I had at the Asian High Tea at Planters Lounge (RM50, senior citizen discount) and at the Palm Court’s High Tea (RM88, no senior citizen discount) at E&O.
The weekend crowd is bigger with many tables occupied by families celebrating birthdays. Service was friendly and efficient from the well trained staff. I think if you are a party of four or more, you might want to make a reservation on the weekends.
Post Script
The cheapest High Tea in Penang is the RM20 dim sum tea served from 3pm at Yum Cha Tea Parlour, Bishop Street.
Kesum Cafe has a tea set from under RM10.
