Kebaya @7 Terraces Boutique hotel
One of Penang's top fine dining restaurants, Kebaya serves Peranakan fusion cuisine, IE Peranakan standards like Otak otak (usually steamed fish flakes in santan and spices) are deconstructed with the fish separately baked in pastry and the spices in the form of a sauce, a la Western cooking. My two courses set lunch was RM106.
The interior decor is sumptuous with Peranakan pottery on display, gilt latticed screens , red brocade drapery with fine embroidery, and traditional marble top tables. Service is friendly (my Nepalese server said he has worked there for 10 years) and efficient. The piped in music is keronchong.
Every thing about Kebaya seems right - the tall ceilings, the music, the attentive service, food cooked in innovative ways and the antique furniture. But prices are correspondingly $$$. 👍
7 Terraces is a high end boutique hotel (just 18 rooms/suites) with ARRs about RM600++ up to RM1500 for the suites. MCO has affected their business quite a bit as has most hospitality businesses.
