Pen World 1998 Special Issue “The Point Of A Nib”

The July/August 1998 issue of Pen World ran to a bumper 80 pages because it was a Special Issue dedicated to fountain pen nibs (“The Point Of A Nib”). There were feature articles on Nib Making, a visit to the ParkerPen nib works at Newhaven, USA, an inside look at a German nib maker, a nib comparison chart of all major pen manufacturers, a page of illustrations of vintage nib types and a discussion of flex nibs by M Fultz, who made custom sterling silver overlays for vintage pens like Parker Duofolds.

The special issue also had advertisements for Jorg Hysek and Visconti Italy pens. See pictures of my Jorg Hysek carbon fibre fountain pen and my Visconti Midnight Voyager below and in my blog Inklings: https://360kiranaresidence.com/inklings

The price of a Pen World magazine issue in 1998 was US$6.95 or HKD 100 in pen shops like HOP CHEONG PENS & LIGHTERS CO. 合昌金筆火機公司 where I usually got my magazines. Pen World used to focus on vintage pens but in the 1990s shifted its concentration to higher end and luxury limited edition pens.

You can still subscribe to a digital version of Pen World and get access to its past issues on the internet. https://www.magzter.com/US/PEN-WORLD/PEN-WORLD/Business/
