Tekshen 😏@Lebuh Carnavon
An old skool Chu Char (home style cooking) eatery, Tekshen (established 1965) $$$ is housed in two heritage shophouses at Lebuh Carnavon. Very crowded with lunch time diners on a weekend, I was asked to take a table at the five foot way outside. Fine with me. I just had my booster jab at a nearby vaccination center and wanted to avoid the crowds.
The portions at Tekshen look small to me. I think the Kau Yok Mui Choy (braised pork belly with preserved spinach, a Hakka favourite of my better half) was well executed. But there were just 3 slices of belly pork -and one belly pork slice was 90% fat!😜- for RM20. So not value for money. My iced nutmeg drink on the other hand was good value for money -RM2.50. 👍
My lunch order of braised pork belly with Mui Choo, a nutmeg juice drink and a bowl of rice was RM25. Expensive by Penang Lang (Penangites aka locals) standards. Service was efficient. My tip is to arrive early at noon to beat the inevitable crowds.
