The Safe Room@Lebuh Victoria
A halal “bar” that looks like a Wild West pub, The Safe Room serves only coffee, soda and halal food. The menu has $$$ steak and burgers. It is apparently a sister cafe to Zen at Beach Street, next to the popular China House cafe.
I think the interior decor is perhaps best described as West meets East with wagon wheels nailed to the ceiling , a Harley motorcycle on display and a poster of Marilyn Monroe (representative of the West) juxtaposed with a red Smiling Man sculpture by a famous Chinese pop artist, antique looking Peranakan wood windows and old Chinese screens (representative of the East).
My tea time Pandan Gula Melaka cake was RM16.40, very expensive for a SMALL slice of what looks like sponge cake The bar staff do not appear to be very friendly- they mostly scuttled of when I took my smartphone out to take pictures. 😏
