Baba Phang Restaurant @ Jalan Sri Bahari

At Jalan Sri Bahari there are 4 Nyonya restaurants along the same road. But what elevates Baba Phang amongst its competitors is the quality of the cooking. The Stingray Assam Tumis at Baba Phang was very good. Compared to the Indian version which smells heavily of roasted fenugreek and coriander , the Nyonya version is sweeter: the chef here uses Bunga Kantan and mint leaves to good effect. The Tau Ewe Bak version at Baba Phang- stewed belly pork in dark soy sauce- though is the star attraction. I think I can taste cinnamon and cloves but there is something extra fragrant in the braising sauce. My dessert of Bubur Cha Cha - it's called pengat in Penang- was excellent.

My bill was RM69 95. There was enough food for two persons.
