Moment Cafe & Bistro @Lebuh Melayu

At the three months old Moment Bistro and Cafe, housed at a restored double storey shophouse at Lebuh Melayu, the $$$ French pastries, tarts and macaroons are the star attractions. The best sellers are apparently the oversized pink macaroons decorated with real pink rose petals and the Paris Brest- choux pastry in the form of a donut- stuffed with flavoured cream. But of course at up to 3x the price elsewhere, Moment's customers' expectations for its fancy pastries are high. Fortunately, I am happy to report Moment sets the bar for French fancy pastries at a very high level . The $$$ prices reflect the quality of the pastries, service level and catchet of dining at one of Penang's best French cafes and bistros. Despite the $$$ prices I am happy to recommend Moment 👍. I think you get what you pay for. My Paris Brest stuffed with pistachio cream was RM25 net.

Service from the servers in white uniforms is friendly and efficient.

Moment has a high tea set for about RM60 and also serves hot lunch meals until 7pm when the cafe and bistro closes. I understand there are plans to start a dinner service later. All the pastries are baked in-house at a glass panelled kitchen at the back.

The interior decor is upmarket for a French bistro. There is a blue bar counter, blue chairs, blue inset wall cabinets, a real Vespa Scooter is parked at the back of house, etched glass panels (featuring a Vespa and a Paris skyline in silhouette), comfortable seating - there is a choice of a long table or smaller tables in the interior and front of house.
