The Frame @Chulia Street
A new addition to Penang's cafe scene, the four month old the Frame at Chulia Street has a bohemian vibe. Housed in a former framer's workshop, the Frame serves only coffee and pastries. The front of house preserves the original workshop space with some frames and an old signboard. This leads directly via an archway to the cafe,
Upstairs is a guest house operated by the proprietor. Next to the main dining area is a lounge equipped with TV and sofas for the use I think of guests staying at the upper floor. There is also access to outdoor seating at the back of house.
The interior decor is Shabby Chic with cement screed floors, bare white washed walls with unfinished wood rafters. There is an old wood staircase with distressed banisters leading to the upper floor. Bench seats are solid chrome - a bit uncomfortable but low maintenance. Service from the baristas was friendly and efficient.
