Georgetown walkabout
Took a 102 Rapid Penang bus to Chowrasta market to get a fish, ended up at Kheng Pin kopitiam at Penang Road for Hei Chee and Ngoh Hiang.
Dropped by the Ban Heang biscuit shop to buy a box of their salted bean biscuits. Then walked across the road to Hutton Lane where years ago, as a backpacker I stayed at Hutton Lodge, a no frills B&B that had rooms for as little as RM50 per night. The gates were padlocked and the building abandoned.
More sighs of gentrification around Hutton Lane. Found a row of historic shophouses, now converted into a boutique hotel with a bar on the ground floor.
The old The Ship restaurant at Hutton Lane next to Hutton Lodge was gone. In its place stood a Whisky and Cigar lounge.
