Jiashi @Gurney Drive

An old skool restaurant that is very popular for its chuchar (home cooking style) dishes, Jiashi is famous for its signature dishes like steamed Garoupa with vermicelli, tofu with black beans, Belachan fried chicken, prawn and pork dates and bitter gourd with egg. My lunch order of Belachan fried chicken and deep fried prawn dates with a pot of Pu'er tea was RM31.30.

The fried chicken was strangely bland, lacking the salty strong umami favour associated with Belachan (fermented Shrimp paste). The prawn and pork dates were I think just ordinary, without the traditional crunch of water chestnuts. Jiashi has a hot water boiler - self service when you want to refill your pot of tea.
