Civil Servants Want More Pay For Homes

World's Most Bloated Civil Service?

There are approximately 15.9 m people employed in Bolehland according to the latest statistics. That means with 1.8 million civil servants, 11% of the working population in Bolehland work for the government. I think this fact deserves an honourable mention in the Guinness book of records as the world's most bloated civil service. Another example of an inefficient bloated Putrajaya and the unnecessary expenses hoisted on the public payroll.

Civil Servants Want More Pay

The civil servants union, CUEPACS, notes 50% of civil servants still can't own homes. So they want a pay rise so they can buy homes. So what? In lots of affluent countries eg Switzerland's home ownership rate is 44%, home ownership is LESS than Bolehland. According to one leading property portal, Malaysia has a home ownership rate of 72%, a lot higher than the UK, Germany and Switzerland

Pension Time Bomb

I think there is a ticking time bomb somewhere for Putrajaya. Civil servants are entitled to government pensions. When they die, their government pensions (which are ultimately funded by taxpayers ) go to the surviving spouse until the spouse also dies. For example, my 88 year old mother (a retired civil servant who clocked up 27 years as a headmistress and teacher) still gets my late father's government pension.

When all the present 1.8m civil servants in Bolehland retire in due time, I wonder who is going to pay their pensions? Just 16% of the working population pays tax in Bolehland. This is compounded further that the tax collection rate in Malaysia in fact is the lowest in the region. L
